BUSY PROFESSIONAL

Our client is a professional who had substantial non-cash compensation, which we helped liquidate in a tax efficient manner differentiating between qualified and non-qualified grants while also adhering to his employer’s compliance policy. We helped protect and diversify single stock exposure and created portfolios designed for long term success. In addition to financial planning services we helped the client negotiate compensation with a potential new employer. We evaluated the terms of the options grant from future employer (a private company) and identified ways to save significant future capital gains tax.

BUSINESS OWNER/DOCTOR

We evaluated the client’s business structure to identify and create a retirement plan that allowed the client to contribute significant sums in a tax beneficial manner. To do this, we had to consider employees at the firm and their status with the firm to comply with Department of Labor rules but at the same time maximize the benefit for the business owner. We rolled over funds from terminated retirement plans into tax efficient accounts without adverse tax impact. We constructed and managed investment portfolios that were a complement to client’s business in various account types including a Trust.

RETIREE

We helped this client feel more confident in their retirement plan. We evaluated various social security options to select the optimal strategy with the highest income over time. Our strategy resulted in tax deferral and additional cost saving for healthcare expenses through managing timing of social security income. We ran several retirement cash flow scenarios to select investments that were most suitable to client’s objectives and retirement success.

WIDOW(ER)

Having spent the last several years managing the household and raising children, our client was unfamiliar with their financial situation and needed to be guided at a time of personal tragedy, something their old advisor was not willing to do. We helped them collect and collate all financial documents and devised a financial plan. We helped them transfer various joint and retirement accounts in their name and ensured that they received a step up in basis where applicable (Resulting in capital gains tax savings that was previously missed in tax filings). Our investment plan ensured that their portfolios were appropriate for their situation. We also helped them maximize their social security income as a survivor.

DIVORCEE

A divorce is a complicated process to be dealing with at an emotionally charged time. It helps if you reach out to a competent financial advisor as early as possible. We helped a client going through a divorce, with division of assets and evaluate a complex corporate pension plan and non-cash compensation such that the divorcee received their fair share of marital assets. The portfolio received had several speculative investments bought by the former spouse. We built a portfolio more in line with their situation and needs. We were able to protect their portfolio from considerable potential loss.
